Hobart's Historic Halloween Happening

Well my dear ladies and gentlemen, ghouls and ghosties, fey and foul! It's that time of year again in this kooky county of Kinetics, that's right, to dress up (or down) to your little hearts content put on your party shoes and come out for a Glorious night! As Halloween is in the middle of the week this year we thought we would just keep that spooky energy rolling on in our always unconventional manner! There will be games, costume contests, prizes, Undead local bands and DJ, plus all of you lovely monsters to gambol as you please! So don your fangs and top hats folks for a night of truly stupendous party hosted by your favorite Kinetic villains!!!

This ghoulish gathering will be hosted at:
RUNEBERG HALL on the corner of Wabash and Union Streets in Eureka.

A small payment will be exacted from each of your souls:
$4 for the small goblins (otherwise known as children)
$6 for the educated brains of students (may be used to feed the band)
$8 for the larger party creatures

There will be alcohol for those who wish for their choice of poison: beer and cheap wine.

Just in case you were wondering what Humboldt Kinetic Association will do with funds
(and generous donations) raised... (hint hint...)

Friends and Lovers of Hobart Brown

Friends and Lovers of Hobart Brown past and present, this man who has offered so many the chance to embrace the inspired insanity that is the Kinetic Sculpture Race, freeing themselves of the shackles of normalcy and convention. This man, Hobart Brown who's art-mechanical motion and humor invention continues to inspire people of all ages, this man who even now challenges us to have fun and to be funny, this man's life and possessions, the contents of the galleries and museum, all the photo albums, the physical remnants of his life and need preserved.
When Hobart Galleries and the Kinetic Sculpture Race Museum packed up the downtown location this March everything went back into storage. Without a location it has become almost impossible to raise the capitol needed to continue storing these many important things. please consider giving a small donation to cover the continued costs of storing Hobart's things. If everybody that likes Hobart's Happenings on Facebook could donate 2 dollars it would make a huge difference!
There are over 700 members in Facebook's Kinetic Sculpture Race group, if everyone could chip in a buck or two it will preserve these things until we can find a new home. donations can be made on the paypal button on the right---->  Please also consider joining the Humboldt Kinetic Association too, I know Hobart thanks you too!

Get Ready for more Glory!!

Come join the Fun at the Kinetic 500! Kinetic Sculptures again will attempt to navigate the tricky terrain of the paved and banked Redwood Acres Raceway during the Second annual
Redwood Acres ~ Humboldt Made Fair
Saturday June 23 from 2:07-7:06 pm

A series of eliminations will give everyone a chance to test themselves against the elements, art and engineering madness expected at this fierce competition advancing to the final Glorious winner.

No need to wait to build the perfect all-terrain sculpture as long as turning left is your focus any design can go for the glory!

Service groups, school and youth groups, businesses, co-workers, sport teams, friends, and neighbors are welcome to issue a challenge to "whup-up" on their rivals on this Kinetic Circle of Glory! Winners and losers will all receive Glory, prizes and dubious bragging rights. All ages' welcome.

Use your imagination. Entries may be constructed of any material you feel is suitable to the job at hand. Some people have been reluctant to enter because they don't know a welding torch from a kitchen sink, but many fine entries have been made of a variety of materials.

Race Procedures
The Kinetic 500 will be run in two sections. The first of these will be similar to previous Kinetic street races (we are using this original guidelines from 1975)
Each heat of 2 contestants will complete one lap of the track. Each sculpture will be officially and individually timed.
Once the first 2 competitors have reached a pre-determined and completely arbitrary point, (or at the whim of the Official starter) the 2nd two competitors will begin their heat. Just keeping it interesting...
After all sculptures have been rounded back up, racers hydrated and times have been tabulated, the top finishers will then proceed to the LeMans portion of the event.
Those not qualified for this portion of the competition are still eligible for many coveted prizes (and they get to rest).
The top finishers of the heats will line up their sculptures on the inside of the track facing the grandstands with the slowest closest to the finish line. At the starting gun, all remaining contestants will run to their machines from a previously selected point and race gloriously around the track the number of laps to be determined by a vote of the racers. This will decide the over-all winner of the speed category.
All other prizes will be determined through very mysterious means by a panel of crack celebrity judges.
